TOP 10 JOBS 2009

This year hasn't exactly started off on the best foot. According to CNN, over 2 million people lost their jobs in 2008, and already 200,000 jobs have been cut during the first month of 2009. If your one of the people who was laid off, it probably seems like there is no hope. Fortunately, companies are still hiring, you just have to know what jobs are in-demand.
Laurence Shatkin, a career information expert, published a book called "150 Best Recession-Proof Jobs" that lists the most in-demand careers during hard economic times. The top 10 careers on his list include:
Computer Systems Analysts
Network Systems and Data Communications Analysts
Network and Computer Systems Administrators
Registered Nurses
Teachers
Physical Therapists
Physicians and Surgeons
Dental Hygienists
Pharmacists
Medical and Health Services Managers
While most of these careers require experience in science and math as well as a degree, sometimes work experience can be just as or more valuable.
The top three careers all require experience working with computer technologies in lieu of a degree. Anyone who possesses technical skills and has relevant experience can find a job in these fields, regardless of the level of education they have received. Sometimes a few courses in computer science or related subjects can help in combination with work experience.
Nurses, physical therapists, dental hygienists and medical services managers generally need at least an associate's degree. However, experience working in a medical office can get your foot in the door, and sometimes employers will reimburse you for pursuing formal training. Most associate's degree programs take about 2 years to complete, and in that time you could be receiving formal on-the-job training that will make you more marketable in the future.
Teachers usually need a bachelor's degree at the least, but anyone who has a degree or expertise in a specific field, such as art, history, or even business can find a job as a teacher. Teachers are always in demand, especially with the increasing number of older teachers retiring. To make yourself more marketable to employers, you need to get relevant experience working in a classroom. Volunteer to be a tutor or apply for a teacher's aide position and prove that you can be a successful teacher.
In order to get a job as a pharmacist or a physician, you must have a Doctorate. However, there are ways to get your foot in the door. Most pharmacies employ pharmacy technicians to help the pharmacist fill prescriptions. Some pharmacies don't require any formal degree or training for this position, instead they provide on-the-job training. In fact, there are no state or federal requirements for training or certification of pharmacy techs. Once training is complete, you can take the voluntary certification exam to become certified. Some pharmacy programs also allow pharmacy techs to enter their programs in lieu of a college degree. So don't be discouraged. Even if you don't have a college degree you can still get a high paying job that will provide stability in this unstable economy

5 Tips to Earning Extra Cash to Get by in the Hard Times

With the economy being as it is, a lot of people are looking for part time jobs in addition to their regular employment in order to stay solvent.
Since their regular job is the main income, they need to find positions that are flexible in terms of working hours.
Remember these tips when applying to that potential employer:
• Prepare a clean resume listing all your current and past experience. Even if you lack experience in position you are applying for, you can show your work ethic as well as show the employer that you are willing to offer your information in a clear concise manner. Highlight your strengths which could make you look to be better than the other people that have applied for the same position..
• When meeting an employer, over dress. Many people make the assumption that in that they are applying for a part time job, they can show up in casual wear. That's a misnomer as it is important to show the prospective employer that you are a professional when it comes to work, even if it is for a lower paid part time position. In addition to the proper clothing be well groomed as that goes a long way in telling the employer how you will maintain his work place. The outfit worn could be business casual. Excessive jewelry is generally a no-no as many employers will think that you will be generating interest for your self as opposed to his products or services.
• Be prepared to hear the work "No" more than once as there are others applying and many are as anxious as you to get the position. Rejection is a part of acceptance and you would need to just let the rejection just roll off your back and move onto the next opportunity.
• When you initially meet the human resource person, make sure that you offer a firm handshake and look them in the eyes. Be prepared to offer yourself in a bit of a sales talk, expounding on your positive attributes and downplaying any failures you may have in the past.
• Follow up - follow up - follow up! It's absolutely imperative that you follow up with your interview with an email or quick letter and then a few days later with a phone call. The squeaky wheel often gets the grease and if the employer sees that you are interested enough to make follow up calls, you have a much better chance of employment.
There are many part time jobs available if you are looking and a part time job may very well be what you need to get you over the hump!

JOB SEEKING ONLINE

The days of hunting and pecking through your local newspaper for employment are long gone. The preferred method is now job seeking online due to the wonderful world of the internet. Although there are still jobs in your local classifieds, there is no where near the opportunity offered online and it is much more cumbersome to search the classifieds.
The world is truly a smaller place with the ease of internet surfing for employment in the comfort of your own home on your laptop.
There are numerous employment opportunities to look for on a job information site and it's really quite easy. It's as simple as setting up an account with your email address and other contact information and either uploading your resume or doing a simple copy and paste.
Expect the very basics... name, address, phone number, geographic area you would like to work and salary range expected.
Expect to provide the following during the online application process:
• Detailed educational background. • Detailed employment history which would include the specific job responsibilities. • Be prepared to explain why you are choosing a specific geographic area if it is not where you currently live • Your preferred industry or job desires and why you are choosing them.
This information will be formulated to show you the specific jobs that work for you and match you with prospective employment and specific employers. It's almost always a free service and you will get email updates on a daily basis.
There are also sites that will send your digital resume to hundreds of prospective employers automatically and that will generally give you a leg up on the competition in the job hunting world.
Many different people have a job need... not just professionals. You'll see contract jobs online, temp jobs online, ordinary work jobs online and other blue collar work online positions available.
Although there are many sites set up to fine tune the process, you can also check the websites of specific companies for employment as many have a careers section. You can find Fedex job listings, Domino pizza jobs, job openings in Sears, jobs at Kohl and many other companies by visiting their specific sites.
The difference with going to a specific company's site as opposed to a broad based site is you will be limited to that particular company and that will of course reduce your chance at employment.
Job seeking online is the wave of the present and surely will be the wave of the future.
